By Wilfred Chukwuma
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu State Council, has honoured the Chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, Dr Eric Odo, with its Overall Best Chairman of the Year award.
The award was presented to Odo on Thursday by the State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Obinna Ogbuka, during activities marking the 2025 Press Week at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Enugu.
Receiving the honour, tagged “Champion of Impactful Development Award”, Odo commended the union for recognising what he described as the significant strides recorded by his administration within the last one year.
He said the award would serve as an additional push for his team to intensify efforts in infrastructure renewal, social service delivery, economic empowerment and peace-building across the council area.
According to him, the recognition reflects the collective commitment of his administration and the cooperation of the people of Igbo-Etiti.
“Our administration is focused on delivering projects that directly improve the lives of our people,” he said. “This award shows that the work we are doing is visible and appreciated, but it also challenges us to deepen our interventions.”
Odo assured residents of Igbo-Etiti that his administration would not slow down, pledging sustained investment in water projects, education, healthcare, social welfare, rural infrastructure and roads.
“These are the pillars of human development,” he stated. “We will continue until every community fully feels the impact.”
He added that the NUJ recognition had strengthened his resolve to pursue more people-centred projects and consolidate ongoing transformations across the LGA.
“It is a motivation for service, and I dedicate it to the hardworking people of Igbo-Etiti whose support has made our progress possible,” the council boss stressed.
