Tinubu, Mbah Bring Renewed Hope as 250 Persons With Disabilities Get N200,000 Each in Enugu
The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Enugu State Chapter, has lauded the First Lady of Nigeria, Pastor Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, and the First Lady of Enugu State, Chief Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, for what it described as an unprecedented empowerment outreach to persons with disabilities in the state.
The programme, held on December 3 at the International Conference Centre, Enugu, was organised under the Renewed Hope Initiative of the Nigerian First Lady, in partnership with the Office of the Enugu State First Lady, to mark the 2025 International Day for Persons with Disabilities.
A total of 250 beneficiaries, including senior citizens living with disabilities, received cash support of N200,000 each, a gesture JONAPWD said brought “immense joy, hope and dignity” to the disability community.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Comrade Onyebuchi Mba, JONAPWD expressed profound appreciation to both First Ladies for their “tireless and compassionate commitment to uplifting vulnerable groups,” describing the initiative as a practical demonstration of inclusive governance.
“We sincerely appreciate Her Excellencies, Pastor Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu and Chief Mrs. Ukechinyere Mbah, for empowering and uplifting citizens with disabilities. Their dedication remains a shining example of servant leadership,” the association noted.
JONAPWD also commended Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his continued support, citing the creation of the Enugu State Disability Commission and the constitution of its board as a major milestone in advancing disability inclusion.
According to the association, Governor Mbah’s actions reaffirm his commitment to building a system where persons with disabilities are recognised, empowered and integrated into the state’s socio-economic development framework.
“As we celebrate this year’s International Day for Persons with Disabilities, we congratulate all beneficiaries. Their resilience and determination remind us that an inclusive Nigeria is achievable,” the statement added.
JONAPWD pledged its sustained collaboration with government, partners and disability advocates to enhance the rights, welfare and visibility of persons with disabilities across the state.
The group further re-emphasized it’s goodwill appreciation, affirming solidarity with the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Enugu State, and the two First Ladies, whom the association fondly described as “mother generals.”
