Iwueke Secures Second Term as Enugu SWAN Chairman, Pledges Higher Standards
Gideon Iwueke has been returned as Chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Enugu State chapter, following a unanimous vote that affirmed his leadership for another three-year term.
The poll, supervised by the South-East Vice President of SWAN, Ikem Asika, came at the end of Iwueke’s initial tenure that began in October 2022. He and other members of the executive ran unopposed.
In his acceptance remarks, Iwueke expressed gratitude to members for what he described as a renewed mandate grounded in mutual trust and shared aspirations.
“By re-electing me as chairman of SWAN, Enugu State chapter, you have reaffirmed your trust in the promises I made when I first assumed office in 2022,” he said. “I remain committed to carrying every member along because SWAN is a family. By God’s grace, in this final lap of our leadership, we will continue to raise the standard of SWAN in the state.”
Reflecting on the association’s progress under his stewardship, Iwueke added: “We know where we started, and I am glad we have grown beyond that level. I strongly believe that the next three years will take us even further. I ask for your continued support as we work together for the progress of our association.”
Asika, who represented the national leadership, commended the peaceful and orderly conduct of the election. He extended the goodwill of SWAN’s National President, Isaiah Benjamin, and Secretary-General, Ikenna Okonkwo, both of whom expressed confidence in the capacity of the Enugu chapter’s executive to consolidate on existing gains.

Other officers returned alongside the chairman include Ikpechukwu Chinedu (Vice Chairman), Chibuike Peter (Secretary), Chibuzor Nwoye (Treasurer), and Godwin Unogwu (Financial Secretary). Amaechi Agbo emerged as the Assistant Secretary.
