Immortalise Okey Ezea with Adada State Creation, Nsukka Journalists Urge Tinubu
The Nsukka Journalists’ Forum (NJF) has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to approve the creation of Adada State as a posthumous honour for the late Senator Okechukwu Ezea, who represented Enugu North Senatorial District between 2023 and 2025.
The appeal was contained in a statement issued in Nsukka and jointly signed by the forum’s Chairman, Mr. Benson Ezugwu, and Secretary, Mr. Felix Abugu.
The forum described the late senator as a vocal, fearless and courageous leader who consistently championed the agitation for the creation of Adada State as a way of addressing the perceived marginalisation of the South-East region.
According to the NJF, Ezea was widely loved by his constituents and regarded as one of the finest senators to have emerged from the zone, adding that he deserves posthumous recognition to inspire future generations of leaders.
“Senator Okey Ezea fought tirelessly until his death for the creation of Adada State on the floor of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement read.
“He was loved and cherished by his constituency — a consummate leader, generous and always ready to attend to the needs of his people.
“Ezea was a democratic combatant, ever prepared to defend his people on the political front. He deserves a posthumous honour that will serve as motivation to younger political leaders, not only in Enugu North but beyond.”
The forum, therefore, passionately urged President Tinubu to grant the request by approving the creation of Adada State, which the late senator fervently pursued during his time in the Senate.
The NJF noted that as the late lawmaker is laid to rest on February 13, his contributions to humanity and national development would not be forgotten.
It added that although his time in the Red Chamber was brief, it was marked by vibrancy and an unwavering commitment to the service of his people and the nation at large.
“His exit has undoubtedly left a deep void in the political landscape of the Nsukka zone,” the statement added.
