Cabinet Reshuffle: Tinubu Sacks Edun, Dangiwa; Appoints Oyedele as Finance Minister
President Bola Tinubu has approved a cabinet reshuffle, relieving the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Umar Dangiwa, of their duties.
The announcement was conveyed in a memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume.
According to the statement, Taiwo Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State for Finance, has been elevated to take over as the new Minister of Finance. Meanwhile, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been nominated as Minister of Housing, subject to necessary confirmation processes.
The SGF disclosed that the reshuffle is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and enhance economic performance in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He added that the process of repositioning the cabinet would remain continuous.
President Tinubu has directed Edun to hand over to Oyedele on or before the close of business on Thursday, while Dangiwa is to hand over to the Minister of State in his ministry.
The statement further noted that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 in effecting the changes.
The outgoing ministers were commended for their service, even as the reshuffle signals what observers describe as a strategic shift in the management of the nation’s economic and housing sectors.
