Nsukka Roars for Continuity as Enugu North Endorses Mbah, Tinubu, Donates ₦102m for Nomination Forms
A massive political gathering in Nsukka turned into a resounding show of support as stakeholders and residents of Enugu North Senatorial District formally endorsed Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for second-term re-election bids.
The endorsement was the high point of a Mega Rally organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the zone, drawing a large cross-section of political leaders, party faithful, traditional rulers, and community groups. In a dramatic gesture underscoring their commitment, the district presented a donation of ₦102 million to Governor Mbah as support toward the purchase of his expression of interest and nomination forms.
Proceedings at the rally featured a series of coordinated motions affirming the endorsements. Hon. Dennis Agbo, representing Igboeze North/Udenu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, moved the motion endorsing President Tinubu, which was seconded by Hon. Chidi Obeta of Nsukka/Igboeze South Federal Constituency. Similarly, the Deputy Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Ezenta Ezeani, moved the motion for Governor Mbah’s endorsement, seconded by Chukwuma Ekwueme, representing Uzo-Uwani state Constituency. The process was moderated by former senator representing Enugu North, Chief Chukwuka Utazi.
Addressing the crowd, Governor Mbah expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive development and delivery of campaign promises.
“We are deeply encouraged by this show of confidence,” Mbah said. “This endorsement is not just symbolic; it is a call to do more. I assure you that we will continue to deliver good governance and ensure that every part of Enugu State feels the impact of our administration.”
Highlighting ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects, the governor announced that construction of a 135-kilometre railway line from Ugwuoba in Oji River Local Government Area to Obollo Afor in Udenu would soon commence. He also reiterated that the dualisation of the Enugu–Opi–Nsukka road would be completed by October.
“Three years ago, you demanded the dualisation of the Abakpa Nike–Ugwogo Nike–Opi–Nsukka road. Today, I stand before you to confirm that by October, that promise will be fulfilled,” he stated. “You also asked for an Nsukka indigene to lead the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Today, your son is at the helm.”
Governor Mbah referenced the appointment of Professor Simon Ortuanya as Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria as a milestone in addressing long-standing demands of the Nsukka people.
He further outlined strides in the education and healthcare sectors, noting that smart schools and Type-2 primary healthcare centres were being established across all 260 wards in the state.
“Our governance model is anchored on equity and fairness. Every ward matters, every community counts,” he added.
The governor also listed economic revitalisation efforts, including the resuscitation of moribund state assets such as the Presidential Hotel, Nige Gas Company facilities, and United Palm Products. He disclosed that the Ohebedim Aluminium Factory would be delivered by October, while the International Hospital would be commissioned within the month.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Central Organising Committee and an aspirant to the Enugu North senatorial seat, Chief Ikeje Asogwa, praised the governor’s leadership style and tangible achievements, urging sustained support from the people.
“Governor Mbah has proven to be a responsive and result-driven leader,” Asogwa said. “The projects you see today are evidence of a government that listens and delivers. I urge our people to remain steadfast so that we can continue to benefit from this administration.”
The rally attracted a broad spectrum of attendees, including top government officials, party leaders, business figures, clergy, women and youth organisations, and representatives from all 102 wards in the senatorial district.
