Enugu Begins Revalidation, Digitisation of Survey Records to Boost Land Administration
The Enugu State Government has commenced a Continuous Survey Revalidation and Digitisation Exercise as part of its ongoing Survey Records Digitisation Programme, in a move to establish a fully digital, transparent and verifiable land administration system across the state.
The initiative, which forms a key component of Governor Peter Mbah’s digital transformation agenda, is designed to safeguard property rights, eliminate disputes arising from lost or defective land records, and strengthen public confidence in land administration.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the government said the exercise would ensure that all land records in the state are properly verified, digitally captured and geographically mapped.
According to the statement, the exercise is aimed at creating “a fully digital, transparent and verifiable land administration framework that protects property rights, eliminates disputes arising from lost or defective records, and strengthens public confidence in land administration.”
The government urged all landowners, estate developers, registered surveyors and property owners to participate in the exercise to guarantee the accuracy and completeness of the state’s digital land database.
It explained that participants are required to present their survey plans, layout approvals and other relevant land documents for verification and revalidation, digital identity creation, geospatial mapping, and the issuance of Digital Land Identity Cards.
To facilitate seamless participation, the state government has established six revalidation centres across Enugu State. They include the Office of the Surveyor General, 5/27 Colliery Avenue, GRA, Enugu; Enugu State Housing Development Corporation (ESHDC) Headquarters, No. 21 Kingsway Road, GRA, Enugu; Enugu Geographic Information System (ENGIS) Headquarters, 4 Chisimdi Ukpata Close, Ebeano Estate, Enugu; the Enugu State Ministry of Housing, State Secretariat, Enugu; Nsukka Local Government Area Secretariat, Nsukka; and Enugu East Local Government Area Secretariat, Nkwo Nike.
The government advised all affected property owners to visit any of the designated centres and complete the exercise without delay, stressing that full participation is critical to protecting legitimate ownership interests.
“Full participation is essential for the success of this exercise and the protection of every genuine landowner’s interest,” the statement added.
The government expressed optimism that the exercise would significantly enhance the integrity of the state’s land administration system by ensuring that survey records are properly verified, digitally archived, geographically mapped and easily accessible, while drastically reducing cases of missing, defective or disputed land records.
