ADC Unveils ‘1ADC’ Initiative as Obi, Atiku, Amaechi Align Ahead of 2027
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has disclosed that its leading presidential hopefuls, Peter Obi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, are working together in a bid to prevent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from returning to power in the 2027 general election.
The disclosure came during the unveiling of a political initiative known as 1ADC, designed to unite members and supporters of the party across various age groups, backgrounds and political interests.
The movement, according to the party, is also aimed at preparing the ADC to mount a strong challenge against the ruling party in the next presidential election.
Speaking at the unveiling in Abuja, the National Coordinator of the initiative, Lauretta Onochie, said the platform would enable supporters of Obi, Atiku and Amaechi to operate as one team ahead of the election.
Onochie explained that the initiative was created to demonstrate that political actors with different ambitions and interests can work together under a common structure.
She noted that the party intends to use the platform to strengthen unity among its members while expanding its reach to more Nigerians across the country.
According to her, the initiative will bring supporters closer together and encourage cooperation even after internal party contests.
She acknowledged that disagreements are common in political organisations but stressed that members must prioritise the overall interest of the party above personal ambitions.
Onochie added that once party primaries are concluded, members are expected to reunite and work collectively while avoiding actions that could weaken the party’s chances.
She further stated that the initiative would focus on grassroots mobilisation, particularly among young people and residents of rural communities.
The coordinator said the movement also aims to develop the ADC into a disciplined and well-organised political platform capable of attracting more Nigerians.
Also speaking, a former National Chairman of the party, Ralphs Nwosu, said the decision to adopt the ADC as a platform for cooperation among opposition figures was intended to give citizens a stronger voice in shaping the country’s political future.
Nwosu explained that the party leadership deliberately opened its structure to broader participation by Nigerians instead of restricting decision-making to political leaders alone.
He stressed that citizens must remain active in political processes to prevent the country from drifting into deeper challenges after the 2027 elections.
Nwosu also described the party’s National Chairman, David Mark, as an experienced leader capable of standing firm in the face of political pressure.
He further highlighted the party’s ongoing digital membership registration exercise, noting that the initiative has attracted significant interest from Nigerians.
According to him, the online registration platform has already recorded millions of new members within a few months.
