Oloto’s Killing: Nsukka Council Boss Vows to Hunt Down Perpetrators
…says circumstances surrounding politician’s death puzzling
The Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, Hon. Jude Chinedu Asogwa, has vowed that the perpetrators of the killing of a prominent politician, Prince Ikechukwu Oloto, popularly known as Okanga Mo, will be fished out and brought to justice.
Asogwa gave the assurance on Friday when he visited the family of the deceased and commiserated with the people of Ibagwa-Ani during his campaign tour of Ibagwa-Ani-Okpaligbo-Utobolo Ward ahead of the September 26, 2026 local government election in the state.
He described the circumstances surrounding Oloto’s death as shocking and puzzling, particularly the manner in which the assailants gained access to his residence.
According to him, there were no visible signs of forced entry into the deceased’s home.
“One thing we discovered is that his door was not broken and they didn’t jump into the compound through the fence.
“We were made to understand that before you pay him a visit, you must call him on the phone. So, whatever happened, though investigation is ongoing, we must find out.
“Yet, it remains that no door was damaged and the assailants didn’t jump through the fence. He probably had opened the door himself.
“But whatever happened, we are going to get the perpetrators. That I assure the people of Ibagwa-Ani,” Asogwa said.
The chairman, who visited the bereaved family before proceeding to meet APC members and commence his campaign rally, disclosed that some prominent persons in Ibagwa-Ani had intervened in the matter to assist security agencies in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The party members also observed a minute’s silence in honour of the deceased.
Oloto was reportedly attacked at his residence in Odenigbo, Nsukka, on Thursday, September 17, 2026. The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the incident, saying it received a report at about 5:45 p.m. that Oloto had been found in a pool of blood at his residence. Police said he sustained deep suspected machete cuts to his head and stomach, was rushed to hospital and later pronounced dead. A manhunt for the assailant or assailants has been launched.
Asogwa canvasses support for APC
At the campaign rally, Asogwa appealed to APC members in the ward to remain committed to the party ahead of the September 26 local government election and the 2027 general elections.
He urged them to support the party’s candidates at the various levels, arguing that APC administrations had recorded achievements that warranted continued public support.
Meanwhile, the chairman pledged to establish a security post at Utobolo following a request by a former member of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Dr. Emmanuel Ugwuerua.
Ugwuerua had appealed to the council chairman to establish a security post in the area to strengthen security and protect lives and property.
Responding, Asogwa accepted the request and directed the Chief Security Officer in the area to liaise with the former lawmaker towards its immediate implementation.
