Enugu APC Chair Hails Mbah’s Performance, Says Party Unbeatable in 2027
The Caretaker Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Dr Ben Nwoye, has said that the pace and spread of development under Governor Peter Mbah have made it difficult for any challenger to convince the people of the state that they can offer better governance.
Speaking on a Channels Television programme on Monday, Nwoye said Enugu State was “getting better” under the current administration, citing visible projects across key sectors as evidence of what he described as widespread development.
He listed the establishment of green smart schools and smart health centres across the state as part of reforms aimed at improving education and healthcare delivery. According to him, these initiatives reflect a deliberate effort by the state government to modernise public services and improve the quality of life of residents.
Nwoye also noted that funds allocated to local government councils in the state were not being interfered with by the governor, stressing that financial autonomy at the grassroots was critical to sustainable development.
“The funds meant for local governments are not being touched by the governor,” he said, adding that accountability at all levels of government was essential for meeting public expectations.
The APC chieftain further observed that statutory allocations to governments had increased significantly, estimating that available funds were now about five times higher than what they were in the past. He argued that with such improved revenue inflows, any government that fails to deliver on its mandate should be held responsible by the people.
On national leadership, Nwoye described President Bola Tinubu as a “sensitive” leader, noting that the Federal Government was responding to the needs and challenges facing the country within prevailing constraints.
Addressing the issue of security, he said the Federal Government was doing a lot to bring the situation under control, while acknowledging that security challenges were not unique to Nigeria.
“All nations, including the United States, face security challenges,” Nwoye said, urging a balanced assessment of government efforts rather than sweeping condemnations.
He maintained that, given the scale of ongoing projects and reforms in Enugu State, it would be a tough task for anyone contesting against Governor Mbah to persuade the electorate that they could surpass the current administration’s performance.
Nwoye’s comments come amid growing public debate over governance, development and security at both state and federal levels, as political actors begin to position themselves ahead of future electoral contests.
