Police Intensify Crackdown on Crime in Enugu, Warn Officers Against Misconduct
The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has ordered officers and men of the State Command to redouble their efforts in combating crime and sustaining law and order across the state.
The directive was issued on Tuesday during the Command’s Monthly Strategic Security Conference held at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess, Enugu.
Addressing senior officers at the meeting, CP Giwa charged them to adopt proactive and strategic approaches in tackling criminal activities within their respective jurisdictions, while strengthening the Command’s existing policing framework.
“We must remain proactive, forward-looking and strategic in confronting emerging security challenges,” the Commissioner said. “Every officer must take ownership of security in their area of responsibility. We cannot afford to relent in our collective resolve to rid Enugu State of criminal elements.”
He commended the officers for what he described as “notable operational successes” recorded in the previous month but emphasized the need to sustain the momentum.
“While I commend you for the achievements recorded so far, this is not the time to rest on our oars. We must intensify efforts to ensure that unrepentant criminals and their activities are completely flushed out of Enugu State,” Giwa added.
The Police boss also sounded a strong warning on discipline and professionalism within the Command, cautioning supervisory officers to ensure that their subordinates conduct themselves in accordance with established ethical standards.
“Supervisory officers must provide firm and ethical leadership. Any act of misconduct, unprofessional behaviour or dereliction of duty will not be tolerated. Officers found wanting will face appropriate sanctions,” he warned.
CP Giwa reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustaining peace and security in the state, assuring residents that the Police would continue to deploy intelligence-led and community-based policing strategies to protect lives and property.
The conference was attended by Deputy Commissioners of Police, Assistant Commissioners of Police heading various departments and units, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, heads of tactical and operational units, as well as other senior officers of the Command.
The meeting focused on reviewing the security situation in the state, assessing operational performance, and fine-tuning strategies to address emerging threats.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, who disclosed details of the conference, reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to work collaboratively with other security agencies and members of the public to ensure a safer Enugu State.
